Gorbals Video

Mick pointed me in the direction of the YouTube site, so I've stuck my video of the tower blocks in the Gorbals being demolished.

Took it on my Sony Cybershot camera, turned out not too bad.

Visited Countries

According to this site, I have visited 7% of the world's countries, still got a bit to go yet then.

But I have visited 31% of Europe according to this site.

Demolition

Two of the tower blocks in the Gorbals were demolished today, so walked along to watch. Suprising how quick it was - only took about 5 seconds for them to come down.

The two blocks in the foreground are the ones to go

Sikorski Polish Club

Went out for a few beers last night to the Sikorski Polish Club with Alex, Andy, Alan and Graham. It was a good laugh and the selection of Polish beers brought back memories (and the hangover) of Krakow. Andy did his usual and fell asleep at the table, but hopefully they'll let us in again next time.

London

Alex and I were down in London last July for the Live 8 gig and he finally got the crappy disposible camera developed. So here are the photos.

We flew down on the Friday and met up with Liam. Went out for a few beers in Soho and a bite to eat in Chinatown before heading off to a club in Hoxton.

Alex and the 'amusingly' named 'New Fook' restuarant in Chinatown.

Liam and Hana in the club in Hoxton

Saturday, we nursed our hangovers and headed along to the Live 8 gig. Annoying it was alcohol free and the bottle of vodka we had smuggled in soon ran out.

Sobriety was soon followed by a hangover again and we were gasping for a pint. Watching The Who and Pink Floyd made it all worthwile though.

Big Duncan of the Battle ax

Had a look at the exhibition of old photos of Glasgow in the People's Palace ("Glasgow 1955: Through the Lens"). Some cool photos.

On the way out, took a look in the shop. All the usual shite and tat but they had books on various clans. Read the back of the book on the MacRae clan and it made me laugh.

My ancestor gave Alex's ancestor a shoeing at the Battle of the Park..

"The early years of the MacRaes are filled with bloody battles and martial achievement. In 1488 at Blair na Pairc (battle of the Park) young Donnachaidh Mor nam Tuag (Big Duncan of the Battle ax) slew MacLaine of Lochbuie, the principal MacDonald warrior. In 1534 another young Duncan MacRae defended Eilean Donan against a large raiding party of MacDonalds. Duncan's arrow slew Donald Gorm of Sleat, the last claimant to the title Laird of the Isles. In 1687 James VII, the last Stuart king to occupy the thrones of both Scotland and England, was deposed."

Lol.

Lazy Sunday

Took a wander up to the Barras today via Glasgow Green. The Barras was dead and a load of police kicking about. Think that the police stopping the traders selling the dodgy DVDs and counterfeit goods has made the place a lot quieter. No doubt in a couple of years they'll have
bulldozed the place and it'll all be flats.

Another grey and wet day in Glasvegas.

You got to know when to hold 'em

Last night was what will hopefully become our monthy Texas Hold 'Em Poker night at Mick's. It was either beginners luck or I am getting better as managed to end up winning 2 of the 5 games!

As Kenny Rodgers said..

"You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold ’em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table.
There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done."
