Latvia - Nov 2006

It's been a bit of a year for stag weekends and weddings, after Ruf's do in Ibiza and then Mick's in Edinburgh, it was Sweeney's in Riga last weekend.

Fri 3rd Nov

We got the flight from Prestwick to Riga at 5:20pm on Friday evening, so it was half 10 before we landed in Riga. After changing some currency, we travelled in style in a limo into Riga Old Town whilst drinking Champagne.

We got dropped off in the Old Town where we met the representative from the apartments that we had booked. It was baltic and the snow was coming down really heavy and had been for a while so it was pretty deep - I started to regret only taking my gutties.

Brrr!

She took us to our apartments which unfortunately were in three seperate buildings so we arranged to meet in a bar that we saw outside the first apartment.

Andy and I got to our apartment last and after dumping our bags, headed out to meet the others at the bar. Unfortunately we got lost straight away as we'd been unable to get our bearings in all the snow. We decided instead to head to the Orange Bar and then text the guys to meet us there.

Glad to be in the warmth and out of the snow, we had a couple of Kiss pear ciders - love it - whilst waiting for the rest of the guys to arrive.

Eventually they found the bar so after a few more drinks, we headed off to Nobody Writes to the Colonel (Pulkvedim Neviens Neraksta) .

After a few drinks in the club, we headed home. We got lost again and wandered about in the snow asking for directions, eventually stumbling across the apartment and then crashing out.

Sat 4th Nov

I woke up fairly early and after annoying Andy till he eventually got up, we headed out to Double Coffee for breakfast. An omelete and a couple of coffees later we went for a wander round the Old Town. It was lovely all covered in snow, though it was freezing cold.

We got a text from the rest of the guys who had finally surfaced and headed off to Paddy Whelan's to watch the Celtic v Hearts game. At half time we headed to another Irish bar to watch the remainder of the game before heading to Citas Debesis, another bar that I'd been to back in September.

After a few drinks in here, we headed off to a medievel restuarant where we dined like kings whilst enjoying red wine and more beers.

Sufficiently fed, it was off to the John Lemon bar and then Casablanca for cocktails and dancing.

Sun 5th Nov

On Sunday morning, Andy was not for getting up so I headed out for a wander to the Central Market and then to Double Coffee for breakfast. I went back to get Android and then we meet Sweeney and Neil and headed to Cili Pica for some food before wandering back to Paddy Whelan's to watch the Premiership football. A couple of pear ciders and Guiness later and the young team turned up, looking a bit worse for wear from the previous night.

After a couple of drinks, I wandered down to get a taxi for my flight back to Glasvegas. Had a top weekend but after two nights on the pear ciders, I was glad to get home!

Mon 6th Nov

I missed this as I was back in Glasgow, but the guys went to a shooting range. Here's a couple of their photos.

Sweeney

Andy P - would you trust this man with a loaded gun and the beer fear?
